Adjusting Your Skincare Routine for Autumn

While it’s sad to kiss summer goodbye, fall here in Colorado is absolutely gorgeous! To keep your skin looking as beautiful and radiant as the change of the season, it’s time to make some adjustments to your skincare routine.

Treat Your Squint Lines & Sunspots

Also known as liver spots, sunspots are noncancerous brown spots that develop on sun-exposed skin. After a few months of lounging in the sun, you may have developed a few blemishes. Between checking for any new growths and taking care of your sunspots and squint lines, it’s important to take care of your skin after all that sun exposure.

While dermal fillers are a great way to get rid of those squint lines, here are some ways to improve the appearance of your skin and get rid of sunspots:

  • Laser resurfacing.
  • Cryotherapy.
  • Intense pulse light (IPL)
  • Microneedling

Thicken Your Moisturizer

As the summer sun fades to cooler fall temperatures, your skin will likely become drier. Just like putting on a comfy heavy sweater, it’s time to use a heavier moisturizer. Plus, most spring and summer moisturizers are lighter to promote an oil-free complexion while you’re outdoors working up a sweat.

If you’re looking for a new product, look for a moisturizer that’s made with ceramides, similar to a fatty acid that helps keep your skin healthy. If you need help with your options, ask our estheticians at your next appointment!

Buy a Humidifier

With colder weather comes drier air. With less humidity in the air, your skin will need a bit more moisture as you spend more time indoors. Adding a humidifier to a room where you spend a lot of time, such as a home office, living room or bedroom, is a great way to keep yourself healthy and give your skin some extra love.

Reduce Exfoliating

While extra exfoliation is great over the summer while your skin is hydrated and plump, it’s time to dial it back for the fall season. Exfoliation ingredients – such as glycolic and retinoids – should be replaced with glycolic treatment pads or a mask just once a week. This is still enough to remove dead skin and help remove any discoloration caused by your fading summer tan.

Consider a Chemical Peel

Did you know that the top 18 to 23 layers of your skin are made of dead skin cells? That’s where a chemical peel comes in!

Fall is a great time to get a peel treatment as we begin to stay indoors more, lowering the level of UV exposure from the sun, which allows our skin to recover with ease. Also, as we get older, our skin cell turnover rate slows down — making it hard to shed damaged skin cells. With a chemical peel, you can keep your skin healthy and vibrant for all those fall festivities we all love so much.
